Time Traveler, Capturing Eras: Solo exhibition by Annemarie Terlage

13 February - 22 March 2025
Overview
Impulse Gallery is please to present the highly anticipated solo exhibition Time Traveler, Capturing Eras by the Dutch artist Annemarie Terlage from 13 February until 22 March.

Annemarie Terlage has long been celebrated for her radiant interpretations of mid-century modernism, where architectural landscapes evoke a world of leisure, optimism, and nostalgia. Yet in Time Traveler, Capturing Eras, she takes a bold leap, exploring a striking duality of time and atmosphere. Alongside her signature sunlit villas, sleek pools, and stylized suburban dreamscapes, Terlage introduces an entirely new body of work—a series of baroque interiors that delve into the grandeur, intimacy, and melancholic weight of history.

Terlage’s artistic journey has mostly been shaped by an exploration of memory, space, and the built environment. Her paintings do not document reality but rather construct imagined places, informed by personal recollections, vintage photographs, and cultural memory. In this exhibition, she contrasts two distinct worlds—one drenched in the saturated colors of mid-century optimism, the other steeped in the dim glow of chandeliers, intricate gilded moldings, and velvety shadows of baroque interiors.

The baroque series marks a profound evolution in her work. While her mid-century modern compositions capture the bold clarity of light and structure, these interior scenes invite a more introspective gaze. Ultimately, Time Traveler, Capturing Eras is not just about aesthetics—it is about the emotional weight of spaces, about how architecture and interiors shape our experience of time. In juxtaposing the bold optimism of the mid-century world with the introspective, atmospheric depth of baroque interiors, Terlage creates a dialogue between eras—one that invites viewers to step in, wander, and lose themselves in time.
